Billings, MT Plumbing Company Recommends Safety for Plumbing, HVAC, and Construction

March 26, 2020 - /PressAdvantage/ - Billings, Mo. – As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread through communities, the safety and welfare of workers and customers in the plumbing, HVAC, and construction industries remain in the high-risk category of catching the virus. A Billings, MT plumbing company, Williams Plumbing, has taken immediate steps to ensure the safety of their residential and civil workers, but advise that there is still a lot to learn.

The company has shared a list on their Blog adapted from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) of industry-specific best practices and resources to follow over the next several weeks and months.

Agencies across the globe agree one of the most proactive and immediate measures that can be taken is to increase the frequency of handwashing. It is recommended that individuals use just soap and water washing for 20 seconds. This is especially true after being in public places or after blowing one's nose, sneezing, or coughing. If one is unable to use water and soap, the next best alternative is to use a hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Due to the national shortage of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes, all of Williams plumbers and service technicians are supplied with their supply of hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes and advise all companies and trades professionals to do the same, if possible. Additionally, Williams technicians are avoiding physical contact, such as shaking hands with customers and co-workers.

The company acknowledges that much of this kind of behavior is a habit, however, WHO has advised respiratory viruses like COVID-19 are highly contractable through skin-to-skin contact. Contact with eyes, nose, or mouth with an unwashed hand can lead to becoming infected with the virus. They instead suggest wave, nodding, bowing or generally be neighborly from a distance.

The CDC says coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. While it appears that infection is more likely person-to-person, they still recommend cleaning and disinfecting regularly used surfaces and items. This includes tools and materials. The Billings, MT HVAC company suggests that these items are first cleaned to remove dirt and lower germ count, then followed up with a chemical disinfectant to kill the remaining germs.

Furthermore, Williams is advising all their technicians to screen potentially infected customers by asking the “Big Three” questions to protect residential plumbers and service technicians from contracting and spreading the virus. These questions include:

“Have you or anyone in your house traveled out of state in the last 14 days?”

“Have you or anyone in your household recently experience a fever, runny nose, sore throat, or cough?”

“Have you or anyone you have been in recent contact with tested positive for COVID-19?”

If customers answer “Yes” to any of these questions, then service may be denied and delayed for a minimum of two weeks — as determined by the service technician.

Williams Plumbing and Civil Construction of Billings, MT remains committed to the safety and service of their customers and employees alike throughout this crisis.
