Bangladesh hopes for a lively wicket for 2nd Sri Lanka test

DHAKA, Bangladesh — Bangladesh is expecting a result-oriented pitch as it tries to win a test series for the first time since 2014 by beating Sri Lanka in the second and final test on Thursday.

Bangladesh forced the first test in Chittagong to a draw, batting confidently against Sri Lanka's experienced spinners on a flat wicket.

"We got out of a tough position in the first match," said Bangladesh's stand-in captain Mahmudullah. "So this game is a great chance for us to win a test series. I think all the players are thinking positively, which will help our outcome."

"The (Dhaka) pitch is result-oriented and there will be help for spinners," he said.

The Chittagong pitch received a demerit point following match referee David Boon's report that it failed to provide seam movement to the fast bowlers and did not deteriorate as much as would have been expected as the match progressed.

Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, which will host the series-deciding test, is historically a venue that provides a result.

"From what I have seen, it seems like a dry surface. I think it will be challenging for the batsmen," Mahmudullah said.

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal is relying on his experienced players to deliver a result.

"We have more experienced players in our test side compared to ODI side. It is still challenging to us but we have some game plans according to the conditions and their players. We need to execute that well," he said.

After observing the pitch, Sri Lanka Chandimal also expected the pitch would helpful for the spinners and provide a result, unlike the Chittagong test.
