September 4, 2018 —
FutureOn and Equinor have signed a multi-license agreement that will have the multinational energy company using FutureOn’s Field Activity Planner (FieldAP) cloud-based solution. The agreement offers Equinor a pilot program that will provide digitization of data and integrate data into Equinor’s brownfields in the North Sea.
FieldAP will be utilized to offer real-time engineering opportunities and cost analysis.
FutureOn, known for their cutting-edge approach to oil and gas digitizing, is a natural fit for Equinor, a company publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Equinor had $61.2 billion in revenue in 2017 and employs 20,200 people, making it the eleventh largest gas and oil company in the world.
FieldAP will enable Equinor to be able to pursue expansion through cost analysis and real-time engineering options. The company announced on August 30 that they will be boosting production and activity in Brazil to help boost production.
FieldAP provides an easy-to-understand solution that utilizes visualization to bring projects to fruition. Project data, both on the topside and subsea, will be brought together for teams working in the oilfields to better understand engineering approaches and outcomes.
Data is presented in an animated timeline with information layers that are customizable. Snapshot information for projects, organized by dates, will be used to help teams within Equinor toggle information layers.
FieldAP, a cloud-based solution, will be used on subsea and offshore installations from as early as the planning stages of a project to determining feasibility and the actual operation side of projects.
“Field Activity Planner simplifies the business of understanding what’s already there and what has yet to be installed at any point in time,” commented the Project Manager, “it presents the field layout graphically, with vessels, trenching, production, rock tumblers and pipe information layers that you can switch on and off, depending on your remit.”
Oil field safety, security and sustainability will be a major focus of the agreement, allowing for safer oil field productivity to take place.
Fatality rates in the oil and gas industry are among the highest in the world, but these figures fell greatly in 2016. The number of severe injuries fell in 2016, as employment levels dropped and safety records improved.
Amputation in the industry remains the highest form of severe injury, with fingertips and fingers among the most commonly amputated body parts. Leg fractures remained the second highest injury in the field.
Annual employment in the field was 234,400 between 2015 and 2016, with 349 serious injuries reported.
FieldAP’s solution provides feasibility evaluation, forecasting, what-if analysis, improved visibility, online monitoring and cross-disciplinary solutions in an effort to make oil and gas safety in oilfields a key focal point of a project.
The next generation tool will allow for simplified collaboration of Equinor’s fields along with better decision-making and activity tracking against the company’s project plan. Deviations will be measured and what-if analysis will provide a clearer picture of what can happen during the project.
Decisions and outcomes will be able to be modeled in the environment, reducing risk before any action is taken in the field.
Health and Safety Executive requirements will be analyzed to provide increased visibility around installations. Safety zone establishment can be mapped out and vessels will be properly addressed. Additionally, there is the option of now allowing the vessel to enter the safety zone at different points in the project for enhanced safety of all personnel.
The multi-license agreement will be beneficial to both companies, allowing Equinor to be able to work on their brownfields in the North Sea while futureproofing their investments. Joint development between FutureOn and customers allows for licensees to receive new releases and updates as part of the license agreement.
